I hear a lot of people say about Christianity, “That may be true for you, but that doesn’t mean it’s true for me.”

When Jesus walked this earth, He was aware of cultural differences and the whole spectrum of human experience.  He hung out with outcasts, ethnic minorities, prostitutes, upper-class citizens, and even politicians.  Yet when he spoke, it was always with authority.

He was humble, and he asked questions.  But he never claimed not to know what was true.  Is it possible to know the truth and yet to still not to be a know-it-all?

People around Jesus were looking for the truth.  They went on endless quests for it, but they couldn’t find it.  So Jesus, plain and simple, ended their arguments with this statement:

I am the way, the truth, and the life.  No one comes to the Father but through me.

What about the kid in Africa who’s never heard of you?  “I am the way.”

What about the fact that science is always evolving and disproving hypotheses? “I am the truth.”

How could anyone be happy in this world? “I am the life.”

It’s not the Jesus is “true for me” in the sense that He is not “true for you.”  I interpret the word “for” differently.  Jesus was and is true for me, just like my friend buys a gift for me.  Jesus is true on my behalf.  No matter who you are, Jesus died on my behalf.

No matter who you are, Jesus is for you, too.  He proved that He was true by claiming to be God, and then conquering death itself — a feat no other human could do.  He isn’t just true for no reason.  He is true for you.  He is the way for you, and He provides life for you, and He is true for you.

Don’t forget today that God is on your side.
