I heard a song today and one of the lyrics said, “Without love, I am nothing.”  I thought about it, and my mind was like, “That’s not true!  Just because I’m not a loving person doesn’t mean I’m not worth anything.”  But then I realized that it was true.  Here’s a little logic behind this, or at least my thought process.

No, it is not the case that I become worthless when I stop loving.  But regardless of what I do, I am only worth anything because of the love of God.  God loves me, which means He values me, which means I have value.  According to the Bible, “God is love.”  Therefore, without love, I am nothing.

I am nothing without love.
I am something with love.
God is love.
God loves me.
Therefore, I am something.

The logical implication of God’s love is this: With love, I am something.  But how much of something?  Assuming that God is love, my exact value is determined by the value of God, who lives in me, a love-carrying vessel.  How much is God’s love worth?  That is how much I am worth, because it is this love that makes me something.

God is an infinite, eternal being, limitless and irreplaceable.  God has unlimited worth.  Nothing can replace Him, because nothing can compare to Him.

Value is determined by what a buyer is willing to pay.  God was willing to pay Himself for me.  Because God is infinite in value, I am also infinite in value.

God is infinite in value.
Value is determined by what the buyer is willing to pay.
The buyer was willing to pay an infinite price: God.
God paid an infinite price to gain my soul.
Therefore, my soul is infinite in value.

Unlike in the world, according to God, who is truth, my worth is not based in how much I work.  It is based in how much God paid to gain my soul.  I belong to God.

If my worth were found in how much I can produce, whether by talent, time, force, or innovation, my value would be finite.  It would be not only permissible, but favorable to throw me away because of inconvenience or imperfection.

Without love, I am nothing.
With love, I am something.
God is love.
God loves all human beings.
I am a human being.
Therefore, human value is determined by God’s love.

Human value is not variable.  It is not only infinite, but also unchanging.  That is because God, who is love, is infinite and unchanging, and the value of a human being is determined by God’s love. If human value could change, then practices such as racism, genocide, ignorance of the poor and the widow, and abortion may be permissible and justifiable. Because human value is infinite and equal, therefore, my value cannot change under any condition, including but not limited to ability, color, lifestyle, gender, physical health, personality, stature, size, number of limbs, intelligence, age, stage of development, psychological health, merit, or record.

Human value is determined by God’s love.
Therefore, human value is not determined by any difference among human beings.
God is infinite and unchanging.
God is love.
Therefore, my value is infinite, unchanging, and not determined by who I am or how I was born or what I have done.

I am something because I am loved by God.  This love cannot change.  I am helpless to cause God to love me more or less in an attempt to manipulate an irresistible force.  No person’s value is diminished even by a lack of knowledge that they are loved.

However, I find it most suitable for those living in reality to live by the truth.  Therefore, it is better that each human being understand the love with which God has loved them.

God is love.
I am loved by God.
I live in reality.
If I live according to falsehood, I will still live in reality, but I will not know what reality is.
I can live better in reality if I live according to what is true about that reality.
God created reality.
God has revealed some of His truth to human beings about the reality of the world He created.
Therefore, all human beings should seek to understand how much God loves them.
AND all human beings should help one other accomplish the aforementioned task.
