This week, God has been showing me the difference between my works and His works.

His works are always perfect and always good.

Mine… not so much.

Even when I think I’m doing something good, there is always more to be done. And there is always some kind of selfish motive mixed in.

When you get a test back in school, they mark the wrong answers in red, not the right answers in green. Since I’m not perfect, and God is, I usually conclude that my works are the ones I need to pay attention to. I focus on the problems and try to make them better.

But not only does that not work, it sucks the fun out of everything. Where is the majesty? The glory? The celebration? Is not the Christian life supposed to be full of joy and wonder?

So today, I stepped back from all my ambitions and chores and anxiety and pondered God’s works. His invention of the universe. Human history. Space. The human body. The beauty of the Christmas season. His works are not just perfect, they are beautiful and glorious and high above anything I could ever tweak myself into being. And better yet — His works are good enough for the both of us.

How do God’s works change your day? Do you find yourself ignorant of what He is doing because you are caught up in your own righteousness?

Rest, my friend, and look to Him. If there’s anyone who deserves to preoccupy your mind and heart… it’s Jesus.
